Davao City in the ‘Golden Age of Infrastructure’

Davao City At Night | Camella Manors

Being the focal point of trade, commerce, and investments in Mindanao today, Davao City continues to expand its business horizon, particularly infrastructure developments. With all of the huge infrastructure projects in the works, Davao is swiftly catching up not just to Manila and Cebu, but also to the big cities in other rapidly growing economies.

Davao City Through the Years

Asiaweek once named Davao City as Asia’s most livable city. The first-class highly-developed city was also recognized as the second safest city in South East Asia by Numbeo. It is a prominent real estate investment location because of the high quality of life and low living costs. Foreign investment has benefitted commercial, residential, industrial, and agricultural assets in the city, as well as those in the nearby cities of Panabo, Digos, and Tagum. Retirees who desire a secure and safe house might take advantage of the lower real estate costs. Foreigners can now participate in the city’s burgeoning condominium market.

Property prices in Davao City will rise significantly over the next several years as infrastructure construction ramps up. It has already begun, with real estate zonal values rising by as much as thrice, and it became clear that much of the growth will take place in Mindanao. The growth in value is projected to continue rapidly, especially once the infrastructure development is finished.

Let us dive into some of Davao City projects:

Davao City Infrastructure Project

Davao Expressway Project

The administration’s comprehensive infrastructure development initiative, Build! Build! Build!, was announced in April 2017 as part of the ten-point Socio-Economic Agenda, which outlines the government’s policies with the objective of economic growth, job creation, and improvement in the lives of Filipinos. Accelerating yearly infrastructure investment, with public-private partnerships playing a significant role, is one of the changes. One of the 70 infrastructure flagship projects designated under the program is the Davao Expressway Project.

Davao Bypass Road

The P34.5-billion Davao City Coastal Road project spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will start construction this year, with the agency just waiting for the notice to proceed from the city government. The coastal road, which will run from Matina Aplaya to Sta. Ana Pier is expected to be completed by 2022.

Davao City Underground Cabling Project

Aiming for a wireless city, The Davao City Underground Cabling Project, spearheaded by DAVAO Light and Power Co. Inc. (Davao Light), an AboitizPower distribution unit, has completed the underground cabling activities along C.M. Recto Street from corner San Pedro Street to corner Ramon Magsaysay Avenue in Davao City.

“The underground cabling along C.M. Recto Street is now fully energized with all customers in the area connected. We finished removing power lines, distribution transformers, 64 Davao Light poles and energized the street lights in the area. We reached 100 percent completion progress just in time for the 36th Kadayawan sa Davao, making this an even more meaningful feat for the city,” said Engr. Enriczar Tia, assistant vice-president, Technical Support for Engineering.

This is the second underground cabling project in the city with the first project implemented in 2016 around Davao City Hall and Sangguniang Panlungsod in compliance with City Ordinance 0177-14, Series of 2014.

One of the long-term impacts of underground cabling is the lesser incidence of emergency power interruptions since electric wires are now placed underground. This is an effort to improve customer service and strengthen the resiliency and reliability of the power distribution network.

King Dome

The construction of King Dome in Davao City is well underway and is expected to be completed for a planned inauguration in 2022. The arena will have seating for 75,000 spectators and it is being built by the religious organization Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) of headed by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.

This 26-hectare project will be the first world-class integrated leisure resort destination in Southern Philippines that will cater to the different market seeking holidays for leisure and business. Aside from the highlighted Kingdome Stadium, the component of the Kingdom Global City includes a Condominium Hotel with an estimated 150-room accommodations facility to be positioned as a service hotel; a Hotel and Museum establishment with an estimated 120-room hotel with world-class standards to cater to the luxury market and a museum; a Hangar for small and medium-sized aircraft for the operations of air taxi services for the target market and guests; a Water Park designed for family and children; and a Hotel with 150 rooms, a commercial center with restaurant and business spaces, among others.
